COVID-19 Data Catalog Rules & Guidelines
Welcome to the COVID-19 Data Catalog. This is the place where you can curate, combine, and query a wide range of data sets and engage in conversations with other members analyzing COVID-19 data.
To promote collaboration and improve data quality, we have established these basic guidelines required for participation.
By joining and using the COVID-19 Data Catalog, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines, including the terms and conditions (“Terms”). You also agree to reserve discussions that are best suited to this forum and only share files and content in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. In order to preserve the mission of this data catalog and encourage fruitful participation, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership for anyone who violates these guidelines or any applicable laws and regulations. COVID-19 Data Catalog Guidelines
- Respect the purpose of the data catalog. Use this data catalog to help curate data, share conclusions and analyses, and leverage insights provided by other members. This venue is focused on creating one place where disparate data sources about COVID-19 can be shared, curated, combined, and analyzed.
- Use caution when discussing Personally Identifiable Information (“PII”) or Protected Health Information (“PHI”). Do not upload or otherwise provide sensitive data.
- Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.
- When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.
- Use the site in accordance with the Terms.

We disclaim any and all warranties with regard to information posted on this site, whether posted by Alation or any third party; this disclaimer includes all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness. In no event shall Alation be liable for any special, indirect, or consequential damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data, or profits, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of any information posted on this site.
TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES.

Do not post any sensitive, personal, or proprietary materials or submit any data in violation of any applicable laws or regulations. Do not post or provide any information or other material protected by copyright without the permission of the copyright owner. Do not post or provide any information that is restricted by data privacy laws. BY POSTING MATERIAL, THE POSTING PARTY WARRANTS AND REPRESENTS THAT HE OR SHE OWNS THE COPYRIGHT WITH RESPECT TO SUCH MATERIAL OR HAS RECEIVED PERMISSION FROM THE COPYRIGHT OWNER AND THAT SUCH DATA DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY PII OR ANY PHI. By posting or otherwise providing data, you hereby grant Alation the nonexclusive right and license to display, copy, publish, distribute, transmit, print, and use such information or other material in furtherance of the purpose of the COVID-19 Data Catalog.
You will not directly or indirectly: (i) decompile, disassemble, decode, redesign, reverse engineer or attempt to reconstruct or discover any source code, algorithms, architecture, or other elements of; (ii) translate, adapt, or modify; (iii) write or develop any program based upon; (iv) use for benchmarking or ‘service bureau’ purposes; (v) sell, sublicense, transfer, or otherwise assign or grant to any third party any rights in; (vi) allow access to unauthorized persons to; or (vii) otherwise use except as expressly permitted hereunder, the COVID-19 Data Catalog or underlying software.
You will not sell, rent, lease, assign, sublicense, distribute, transmit, or broadcast in the COVID-19 Data Catalog or its content.
Alation does not actively monitor the site for inappropriate postings and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting is brought to our attention, we will take all appropriate action.
Alation reserves the right to terminate access to any user who does not abide by these guidelines.
You grant to us all rights, licenses and permission necessary to display, reproduce, disseminate, and otherwise use your content in connection with this data catalog. Alation may edit or remove your content, or block or disable replies on a topic, in our sole discretion.
These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to the conflict of laws provisions thereof. In the event either of us initiates an action in connection with these Terms or any other dispute between the parties, the exclusive venue and jurisdiction of such action shall be in the state and federal courts in San Mateo, California.
Any personal information you provide to us, including, for example, your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address will not be released, sold, or rented to any entities or individuals outside of our organization except as noted below.
