Alation Cloud Service Applies to Alation Cloud Service instances of Alation

Alation Cloud Service is a solution for organizations that wish to use the full scope of the Alation Data Catalog without the overhead associated with procuring and hosting the infrastructure for Alation instances, as well as configuring and maintaining the Alation application.

Alation Cloud Service is a fully managed instance cluster. The Alation experts prepare, install, and configure the required hardware and software. The Alation personnel takes the Alation application maintenance workload off the IT teams at an organization as all environment administration and upgrade tasks are delegated to Alation.

Cloud customers benefit from faster time to value as their instance is regularly patched and upgraded so that they can take advantage of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes shortly after they are released.

Alation Cloud Service Connector Compatibility

In Alation Cloud Service deployments, connector support varies by connector type and by whether the Alation Agent is used:

OCF connectors are fully supported in Alation Cloud Service deployments and continue to be supported when connections are established using the Alation Agent.

Native connectors should be considered legacy. They are no longer recommended for database connections in currently supported versions of Alation. To ensure stability and access to the latest features, all data sources should be configured using OCF (Open Connector Framework) connectors. Most native connectors have already been phased out; they no longer receive bug fixes, security patches, or performance updates. New Alation features are developed exclusively for the OCF framework. Native connectors do not support modern functionality. Native connectors are not supported when using the Alation Agent.

Custom DB connectors are supported in Alation Cloud Service deployments only when an OCF connector is not available for the corresponding native connector. Custom DB connectors are not supported with the Alation Agent.

Custom JDBC drivers are not supported in Alation Cloud Service deployments and are also not supported with the Alation Agent.
