At Alation, we love to give back to our community. This is why we recently joined forces with the non-profit charity, Rise Against Hunger, to contribute in the fight against global hunger.

First, some sobering statistics about why this work is so important:

  • Global hunger affects 663 million people worldwide.

  • 22% of children younger than 5 years old suffer from stunted growth as a result of poor nutrition or repeated infection.

  • About 9% of the world’s population, or 697 million people, are severely food insecure [source]

Rise Against Hunger is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing this dire challenge. The international charity is leading a “growing a global movement to end hunger by empowering communities, nourishing lives and responding to emergencies.”

Last week, 40 Alationauts from the US, UK, and APAC donned hairnets and gloves, and joined forces with the wonderful people of Rise Against Hunger to package meals for delivery to those in need. In true Alation fashion, we optimized for productivity, splitting up into teams and making it a race. By adding a dose of competition, we challenged each team to see who could package the most meals fastest.

The result? In just four hours, 40 team members packaged 10,152 meals! These meals are now en route to individuals in need in Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

“This was an awesome experience that gave Alationauts across all parts of our organization the opportunity to work together to do good for the greater community and world,” shares participating Alationaut and Sr. Director of Corporate Communications Ashley Womack “It’s incredible to know that just a few hours of work will impact more than 10,000 individuals receiving meals.”

“It was so rewarding to know that the impact of our volunteer work will be making a difference in people’s lives,” adds Bryan Lee, Director of Creative Services. “It was also an added bonus that we were able to collaborate with folks from across the organization that we normally wouldn’t partner with!”

Alation is proud to donate our time and energy to vital global challenges such as these. Today, we offer a donation-matching program, effectively doubling any Alation’s individual contribution to a cause that’s meaningful to them.
