Quick Start Guide¶
Step 1: Initial Setup¶
Before creating a monitor, complete the following setup steps:
Verify Data Sources¶
Ensure your data sources are properly configured and connected in Alation.
Confirm Metadata Extraction¶
Check that metadata extraction has completed successfully for your target data sources.
Configure Query Log Ingestion (QLI)¶
Confirm that query log ingestion is set up and functioning as expected.
Validate User Privileges¶
Make sure users have appropriate SELECT
privileges on the datasets to be monitored.
Assign User Permissions¶
Ensure the right users and roles have the necessary permissions to create and manage monitors.
Step 2: Create Your First Monitor¶
Select Data Source and Tables¶
Choose the data source and the specific tables you want to monitor.
Choose Configuration Method¶
Use AI-generated recommendations for suggested checks or manually configure your own data quality checks.
Set Execution Schedule¶
Define how often the monitor should run (e.g., hourly, daily, weekly).
Configure Notifications¶
Set up alert preferences to notify stakeholders of failures or threshold breaches.
Step 3: Execute and Review¶
Run the Monitor¶
Execute the monitor to generate your initial data quality scores.
Review the Results¶
View results and insights in the Data Quality dashboard to assess current data health.
Set Up Alerts¶
Configure alerts and thresholds based on your quality standards to proactively monitor issues.
