Enable Permission for Source and Catalog Admins to Add Sources

Alation Cloud Service Applies to Alation Cloud Service instances of Alation

Customer Managed Applies to customer-managed instances of Alation

Note

Alation Cloud Service customers can request server configuration changes through Alation Support.

By default, only Server Admins can create new catalog sources. You can extend this permission to Source Admins and Catalog Admins using an alation_conf flag.

To allow Source and Catalog Admins to add and configure sources:

  1. Use SSH to connect to the Alation server.

  2. Enter the Alation shell using the following command:

    sudo /etc/init.d/alation shell

  3. Run the command below to set the flag to True. No restart is required. The change takes effect immediately.

    alation_conf alation.roles.allow_source_and_catalog_admins_to_create_ds -s True

Once enabled, the Add button for catalog sources becomes available to users with the Source Admin or Catalog Admin role. These users can then add and configure new sources as needed.
