AI Features¶
Alation Cloud Service Applies to Alation Cloud Service instances of Alation
Alation’s Data Intelligence Platform includes a suite of AI-powered features that help you find, understand, govern, and use your data faster. This page gives you an overview of each feature and links to the full documentation for configuration and usage details.
No customer data is ever used to train foundation models. Customer content is processed only to deliver the requested service and isn’t used to train foundation models. All AI features operate within the security and compliance posture of Alation Cloud Service. AI features are opt-in or configurable, and you can disable any feature at any time.

Catalog Intelligence¶
An AI-powered search agent that simplifies data discovery. Ask questions in plain English and get direct links to catalog content, with iterative follow-up questions to refine your results.
Generates human-readable descriptions for database tables using available metadata — table names, column names, linked queries, and joins — to improve catalog clarity and discoverability.
Data Quality App¶
Recommends quality checks based on data patterns, explains check failures in plain language, generates descriptions for custom SQL checks, and detects anomalies using proprietary machine learning models.
Governance¶
Generates titles, descriptions, and custom field values for catalog objects at scale, guided by your governance standards and instructions. Govern more data with less manual curation effort.
Identifies and enriches Critical Data Elements based on your policies and source documents. AI suggests field values, risk assessments, and standards for each CDE.
Data Products App¶
Create curated, reusable data products and make them available through the Marketplace. Includes AI-powered semantic search and automated quality badges to help consumers evaluate data products at a glance.
A conversational copilot for creating and refining data products. Translates plain-English instructions into YAML specification changes and scores product completeness so you can ship better data products faster.
Explore a data product by asking questions in natural language. Returns reports and summaries from the underlying dataset, scoped to your database credentials and the data you’re authorized to access.
Agents and Integrations¶
Build and run interactive AI agents that can interpret instructions, call tools, and securely access your data to complete tasks. Supports OpenAI and Amazon Bedrock models. Documentation opens in a separate tab.
Uses generative AI to extract connection information from complex Power BI M query expressions, surfacing more accurate data lineage for Power BI Scanner connector users.
Alation’s intelligent in-product guide and help system that brings instant, trusted answers right inside the product. Draws only from official documentation sources and curated internal knowledge — no customer data involved.
